The First Bite Demo is a free demo of Stupid Never Dies on PS5 and PC. It covers approximately the opening two hours of the full game, and the developer confirms that its save data can carry into the full release. On PC it is a separate Steam app (4880100) with its own product page. The demo introduces the core systems and includes two boss fights, Afreet and Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, but it is not the whole game, and not every Style or boss is available.
Where to download the demo
On PC, the First Bite Demo has its own Steam listing, separate from the full-game page. Use the demo listing for the free trial and the full-game listing for buying the game. The full game's Steam app number is 3486530, while the demo is 4880100.
On PS5, the demo is available alongside the full-game product. Gematsu's report on September 3, 2026 independently confirms availability on both PS5 and PC. GPTRACK50 published its own announcement on September 4, 2026.
The demo is a playable trial, not a free copy of the complete game. When you finish it, the full game is required to continue. Your progress is not lost, because the save can carry over.
Downloading the demo costs nothing on either platform. You do not need to buy the full game to play it. That makes it the lowest-risk way to try Stupid Never Dies.
| Platform | Where to get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | Steam First Bite Demo listing (app 4880100) | Separate product from the full game (app 3486530) |
| PS5 | PlayStation Store | Confirmed by Gematsu and GPTRACK50 |
What the First Bite Demo includes
GPTRACK50's announcement lists the systems the trial introduces: basic actions, Bite, Style Eat, Body Hack, Davy Burst and the mall. That covers the core of how Stupid Never Dies plays. It is enough to understand the dive-and-return loop.
Gematsu names two boss encounters in the demo: Afreet and Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers. Afreet also appears in the official boss-battle section of the June 2026 second-trailer announcement. Both fights are good tests of the combat basics.
The demo covers approximately the first two hours of the full game. That describes the content, not a countdown timer. Some players will take longer, especially if they experiment with Styles.
The systems you will learn
Bite is the first thing to get comfortable with, since hands-on coverage describes biting enemies to recover health. The developers explain that conventional dodge and guard controls are absent, leaving the Stupid Parry as Davy's defensive tool. Together they form the combat rhythm the rest of the game builds on.
Style Eat lets Davy devour cores from elite monsters to take on their forms. Body Hack modifies his head, arms and legs with equipment that keeps working across transformations. Davy Burst is the third headline combat system named on the official site.
The mall ties these systems together between dives. Bessie Burger unlocks Zombie Skills, and the Ink on the Brain shop handles OT Gear and Body Hack. Seeing that loop in the demo makes the full game much easier to plan.
Save data carries into the full game
The developer confirms that First Bite Demo save data can carry into the full game. Gematsu's report on the demo confirms the carryover as well. Time spent in the trial therefore counts toward your full playthrough.
This has not been established for transfers between different platforms. Play the demo on the platform you plan to buy on, so your save can continue. PS5 to PC transfers, or the reverse, are not confirmed.
The full game releases on October 21, 2026, with some regions seeing October 22 because of time zones. Our release date page has the details, including Glorious Idiot advance access. Starting in the demo gives you a head start on the campaign.
What the demo does not include
It has not been confirmed that all eleven Styles are available in the demo. Expect to see only part of the roster. The full list is on our Styles page.
Not every boss is available either. GPTRACK50's Surtr R.S. video explicitly states that his fight cannot be played in the demo. Wyvern, shown in a director-commentary video, has not been confirmed for the trial.
The demo is also not evidence of the ending or late-game content. Developer estimates put the main story at roughly 20 to 30 hours, far longer than the trial. Our walkthrough page explains what can be verified today.
Camera and targeting update
A September 2026 update improved targeting against grounded and airborne enemies. It also added an optional Combat Camera Assist. RPGamer and the official SEGA and GPTRACK50 press release both report the change.
If you played the demo early and found the camera difficult, it is worth trying again. Turn on Combat Camera Assist and compare. Footage recorded before the update may show older behavior.
The PlayStation accessibility list also mentions control options and tutorial reminders. Exact implementation can change between builds, so check the settings menu in your current version. The list does not replace testing the options yourself.
Tips for your first demo session
There is no conventional dodge roll or guard, so learn the Stupid Parry early. The developers note that it can still cause damage. Biting enemies recovers health, which ties survival to aggression.
Read each Style Card before accepting it, since Style skills are random. The developers say no single Style suits every situation, so switch forms to suit the fight. Visit the mall between dives to use its upgrade services.
Your dungeon level resets to 1 at the start of each dive, by design. Persistent progress makes later runs level up faster. Our beginner tips explain each point in more detail.
Demo videos and early footage
GameRiot's “Exclusive Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1 - INTRO,” published September 3, 2026, explicitly identifies an early demo build. It is useful as an opening reference. It is not evidence of the final game.
SEGA's DEEP BITE videos feature director commentary on combat and the game cycle. They explain the systems the demo introduces. Official trailers, such as the Third Trailer released with the demo announcement, give extra context.
Is the demo worth playing?
The demo is the most practical way to judge the combat yourself before launch. A verified full-game review consensus has not been established yet. Hands-on coverage has praised the colorful presentation and discussed biting, transformations and counterattacks.
Because the save carries over, there is little downside to trying it. Our review page collects verified impressions and explains why no aggregate score exists yet. The full game itself is estimated at roughly 20 to 30 hours for the main story.
