Quick answer

Developer estimates put the Stupid Never Dies main story at roughly 20 to 30 hours. A second developer interview narrows that down: about 20 hours for skilled players and about 30 for average play. This is a developer estimate, not a measured community average. The approximately two-hour First Bite Demo and the 20 to 30-minute dungeon dive cycle measure different things, and completionist time has not been verified.

The developer estimate: 20 to 30 hours

In a Gamescom interview published on September 2, 2026, the director gave a main-story estimate of 20 to 30 hours. The same interview mentions content that continues after the main story ends. That makes 20 to 30 hours a campaign figure, not a full-completion figure. It is the most widely quoted estimate for the game.

A later Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show interview, published on September 19, 2026, splits the range by skill. Skilled players are expected to finish in about 20 hours, while average play lands closer to 30. The gap reflects how much a player's combat ability affects progress through the dungeon. Neither number has been measured by players yet.

An earlier official interview with Weekly Famitsu, published by GPTRACK50 on May 1, 2026, estimated around 30 hours of playtime. The later figures are consistent with it. All three come from the developers, so treat them as guidance rather than guarantees.

Why skill changes your completion time

Stupid Never Dies is built around repeated dungeon dives. Davy's dungeon level resets to 1 on each new dive, while long-term upgrades make later runs level up faster. Players who survive longer in each dive bring back more and need fewer attempts.

Combat has no conventional dodge roll or guard, and the Stupid Parry can still cause damage. Learning that rhythm takes time for players used to other action games. Getting comfortable with Bite, parrying and Style switching is the most direct way to shorten your playtime.

Choices also matter. Style Cards let you compare or reject incoming skills, and Body Hack equipment keeps working across transformations. Our beginner tips collect the documented mechanics that help new players settle in faster.

Encounters also change between dives, and Style availability is temporary within a run. Flexible players adapt more easily to whatever the dungeon offers. The developers' 20-hour figure is specifically for skilled players.

The demo is not the whole game

The free First Bite Demo covers approximately the first two hours of the full game. GPTRACK50's announcement describes that as the opening section, not the campaign length. Finishing the demo means you have seen the start, not most of the story.

The demo introduces basic actions, Bite, Style Eat, Body Hack, Davy Burst and the mall. Its save data can carry into the full game, so those two hours count toward your total. Transfers between different platforms have not been confirmed.

The approximate figure also describes content scope rather than a timer. Some players will spend longer exploring, while others move faster. See the demo guide for what the trial includes and how to download it.

The demo is available on both PS5 and PC. On Steam it is a separate app with its own product page. Downloading it costs nothing, so it is an easy way to judge the pace before launch.

A single dive is much shorter

The developers describe one preparation-and-dive cycle as roughly 20 to 30 minutes. GPTRACK50's progression materials emphasize that Davy grows quickly during each dive. Headlines about feeling progression within twenty minutes refer to this cycle, not to beating the game.

Each dive ends with a return to the mall, where you use upgrade services before diving again. That structure makes the game easy to play in short sessions. Over many cycles, those sessions add up to the 20 to 30-hour campaign estimate.

Dungeon layers branch, according to reports on the progression video. The route you take affects what you meet in a given dive. That variation is one more reason total playtime differs between players. Two runs of the same dive can look quite different.

Post-story and completionist time

The director mentions content that continues after the main story. Its size and requirements were not documented in the sources we checked. No completionist estimate has been published.

Steam lists Steam Achievements for the full game, but a complete list has not been verified. Without that list, it is not possible to estimate how long a full completion run takes. Our achievements page tracks what is confirmed.

We will not publish a completionist number until it can be measured from the released game. Community averages will also take time to settle after launch. This page will be updated with dated figures when they exist.

Exact requirements for unlocking post-story content are also unknown. It is not clear how much it adds to the campaign. We will keep it separate from the main-story estimate once it is documented.

How to plan your playthrough

If you play a few dives per session, the 20 to 30-minute cycle makes progress easy to track. The game releases on October 21, 2026 for PS5 and PC via Steam, with some regions seeing October 22 because of time zones. Starting with the demo gives you a head start, since its save carries over.

Players who want to move quickly should focus on the combat fundamentals first. Players who enjoy experimenting can spend extra time testing Styles and Body Hack combinations. Both approaches fit inside the same campaign estimate.

Remember that the developer range is for the main story only. Any post-story content will add time on top. Check back after launch for verified completion data. We will date every update.

A simple plan works well for most players. Play the demo first, learn the combat rhythm, then use the mall after every dive. Our guide explains the whole loop if you want the full picture before you start.

Estimates versus measured averages

Every number on this page comes from developer interviews or official announcements. None of them is a measured average from players who completed the released game. That difference matters when you compare Stupid Never Dies with other games' completion data.

Interviews can also reflect a build that changed before launch. The September 2026 update, for example, improved targeting and added an optional Combat Camera Assist. Changes like these can affect how quickly players progress.

For now, 20 to 30 hours is the most reliable figure available. We list the source and date for each estimate so you can judge it yourself. If you finish the game, you can send your playtime and platform through our contact page.
